Driving in Finland
Driving through Finland during winter can be like driving through a Christmas card scene; snow covered trees, mountains, houses, frozen lakes, snow-lined roads.
Between 1st December and 31st March, it's compulsory to have winter tyres (preferrably studded) on your vehicle. Moreover, in Finland you are obliged to have your headlights switched on at all times!
Remember to take enough time for your drive during the winter months (October-May). The roads might get blocked by the snow or by trucks.
Northern Lights Route
This 620 km scenic road sweeps through Lapland's strikingly beautiful nature. This Arctic highway is situated at the border of Finland and Sweden, and will take you from Tornio all the way up to Tromsö, which is considered to be one of Norwegian's most magical cities. Dazzled by pine-dotted snowcapped mountains, shimmering lakes and majestic fjords this road might treat you with some mystifying Northern Lights while on route during winter time.
